Page Summary:
We launched from Sugarloaf Marina (MM17), which has the most reasonable launch fee we've found in the Keys, and helpful staff. Kayak rentals and tours are also available. Paddling across Upper Sugarloaf Sound, we entered the maze of channels which provide shelter from the wind. The tidal currents can be swift through some of these channels. One must also cross some open water to get to the wind-sheltered mangrove sections, so we rate this trip as "moderate."
